The Saint Gianna Latin Mass Community, located at Saint Ambrose Parish in Tucson, AZ, celebrates the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass according to the 1962 Latin Missal.  The Most Rev. Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop of Tucson, generously responding to the petitions of the faithful, has granted us the faculty to celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice and the Sacraments according to this ancient and venerable rite.

Although the "Old Mass" is commonly referred to as the Tridentine Mass, this is not quite an accurate name.   Actually the "Old Mass," dates back to the time of Pope Saint Gregory the Great in the sixth century.   However, there were slight variations of the Mass formulary in some places.   After the Council of Trent in the year 1570, Pope Saint Pius V codified the Mass so that it would be celebrated in a uniform manner throughout the world.   Shortly after his election to the papacy, Blessed Pope John XXIII mandated that the name of Saint Joseph was to be commemorated in the Canon of the Mass along with his spouse, the Blessed Virgin Mary.  This addition marked the first change in the Canon of the Mass since the decree of Pope Saint Pius V.

Father Fredrick Faber, the noted Catholic apologist and writer, called the ancient Mass, "The most beautiful thing this side of heaven."  We certainly agree.  The theological richness of the, " Mass of the Ages," coupled with the beauty of the Gregorian Chant, is truly a foretaste of the solemnity and splendor of the heavenly liturgy.  United with Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest and His holy Church, we offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in worship of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Above the image of Our Blessed Mother you will see the Latin inscription, Sub Tuum Praesidium or Under Your Protection.  This is an ancient dictum of Christ's Faithful which goes back to Apostolic times.  As devotees of the Virgin Mother of God, we too have placed ourselves under her motherly protection.  My friends, may she extend her constant care upon us, one and all.  Truly, she is Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

Please refer to our Mass and Confessions Schedule and our Monday Evening Devotions to Our Lady of Fatima.   If you cannot be with us at these times, please join us spiritually in prayer.  Also, please refer to the sections listed beneath Our Lady's image.   For your edification, we have selected an array of the Magisterial Teachings of Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI,  and a variety of articles by Bishops, Priests and Laity.  Our goal is to present you with the richness of Catholic truth in full accord with the Teaching Authority of the Church.  We ask your prayers and welcome your comments.

May Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, the Patroness of our Latin Mass Community, shower you with many blessings from heaven!

Oremus pro Pontifice nostro Benedicto. Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum ejus.

Let us pray for our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI.  May the Lord grant him long life,  strength and health.   May the Lord grant that our Holy Father  will be  blessed on earth and not allow him  to fall into the hands of the Church’s enemies.
